She was never allowed to play with the beads, they were a birthday gift for her older sister and were always used under strict adult supervision. Unfortunately, because the beads are so tiny and hide around the home, she unknowingly swallowed some. She doesn’t want any other children to be harmed they way she was, so she decided to speak (she was scheduled to speak that day but unfortunately the meeting was cancelled. Sometimes products can be contaminated or formulas can change based on economic forces. Product associated injury is not required to be reported to the consumer product safety commission and traditional injury surveillance systems like NEISS and NPDS can miss cases like my daughter’s.
