The first time you encounter your students in the morning you must ensure that it is a positive interaction. This student has a lot of energy and therefore dancing is a really effective tool. It’s about knowing the interests of your students, using those interests to build positive interactions which will allow your children to develop trust and form positive relationships. i teach Neurodivergent children #adhd #teacher #semhteacher #adhdteacher #neurodivergent #movementbreak #fyp
So proud of this student for talking and expressing their feelings so we could change their mindset. Their dancing spin was amazing without breaking stride too! #semhteacher #teacher #adhdteacher #neurodivergent #movementbreak #fyp
Full circle moment, realising the important of dance for the ADHD brain as a strategy for regulation. #semhteacher #teacher #adhdteacher #neurodivergent #movementbreak #fyp
You may be the first positive interaction that child has faced this morning. I teach Neurodivergent children in a small class size of 5. This student has hyperactivity traits like myself and loves dance as one of their entry options. #semhteacher #teacher #adhdteacher #neurodivergent #sendteacher
Join me on my journey to raise awareness of working with children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health challenges (SEMH). These children are often misunderstood and they are absolutely amazing to work with on a daily basis. #semhteacher #teacher #movementbreak #adhdteacher
I have worked with some fascinating Neurodivergent conditions within my educational career over the past 10 years. Here are the acronyms explained. ADHD - Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. OCD - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. ODD - Oppositional Defiance Disorder. FASD - Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. DLD - Development Language Disorder. DCD - Development Coordination Disorder. PTSD - Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. BPD - Borderline Personality Disorder. #neurodivergent #neuroscience #neurodivergence
All my students have made a step of progress in their Spring assessments, so proud! We celebrate all progress in our SEMH setting, holistic and in this case academic. #teacher #semhteacher #adhdteacher #movementbreak
The importance of self-regulation as an adult. As teachers, parents/carers we must prioritise our mental health first and be regulated before we support a dysregulated child. It begins with us, I use dance but other strategies include: - S-L-O-W down 🐌 - Music 🎧 - Deep Breathing techniques 🧘 - Self-expression 🎨 - Positive self-talk 🗣️ - Walking 🚶♂️ #semhteacher #teacher #adhdteacher #regulation
We offer reward activities for our Neurodivergent children to help motivate them with tricky learning tasks. Today our reward session was either swimming or a bike ride, both with physical and mental health benefits. What an amazing relationship building opportunity too. A pupil I have been forming a relationship with gave me his first unprompted fist bump today and he has sensory difficulties 🥹#semhteacher #teacher #adhdteacher #neurodivergent #sendteacher #schoolbikeleader
