Cleaning up the pockets on these spoons is simple! Just adjust the stepover on the tool to 5% and set the direction of cut to go with the grain of the wood, providing the cleanest cut possible. Surfacing a large walnut slab on the CNC machine! I used shims with hot glue to hold the slab in place so we could get this first side flattened, it worked great! The 3 wing insert carbide surfacing bit with DLC inserts flew through the material and left a nice flat surface, extremely impressed at how well the machine cut! Going through the full milling process to get a board square on four sides, S4S, using the jointer, table saw and planer on the wood for the next project! I rough cut the board at the miter saw and roughly ripped it to width with a 20T ripping blade to quickly get through the material. One face and one edge were squared at the jointer, while the opposite face was planed parallel to the jointed face. Finally, I switched out to a 40T blade, for a finer cut quality, to rip the last edge perfectly square. I have never wanted to touch wood while it's cutting so bad in my life! I did manage to refrain from doing it until after the carving was done, but I just couldn't believe how smoothly the wood carved. The surface finish left by the tapered ballnose bit is dang near perfection! Now we just need to get the spoon flipped over and carve the other side. This compact router table is one that will work in any shop environment! I love that the router mount is able to be taken out of the table and becomes a larger, more stable base for your router. This also means that you could put a StabilMax base on another router and swap routers, with different bits in them, into the table without any additional setup work! The ability to clamp the table to the edge of the workbench and still be nice and stable is another awesome addition to this setup! Rounding over the handles for these cherry spoons we have been making! This full featured smaller router table setup is super convenient to have, especially with the removable router base. This means I can just leave this 1/4" roundover bit set up in this router all the time using it free hand with the larger base or in the table, depending on what I'm working on. Double sided machining is not as difficult to set up as you might think. Many people are intimidated by it, but in reality, you just need to create location holes in the top side of your work piece and mirrored holes in the wasteboard using some dowels as location pins. Once your piece is secured back down using new screw hole locations, your x and y zero locations stay the same and you're ready to start cutting on the opposite side. It's a pretty easy process!
